Wishing someone a happy birthday is an opportunity to be either interesting or boring—if you're posting or commenting on a social media where everyone can see what you've written, why not make your message an interesting one? Don't just post a generic "happy birthday" message when you can do more! Come up with a birthday wish that's fun. Use these to write something to a friend on his or her birthday:
- I know you are older today, but you don't look any older. . . at least not in your profile picture.
- Let's make your Facebook wall into a BIRTHDAY PARTY!
- Aren't you too old now to have a Facebook/Instagram/Twitter account?

Birthday Posting Tips
One thing to keep in mind when writing something on a social network such as Facebook is the public nature of your post. Don't write anything that is embarrassing or hurtful, especially things that could get someone fired. That being said, you can be funny, creative, or inspirational using some of the following tips:
- Try to be the first person to post happy birthday. If you aren't first, read over what others have written to ensure you aren't repeating the same thing someone else wrote.
- Wait until the day after someone's birthday when there are fewer people posting. This will make it more likely that your birthday wishes will be read. You can use a funny belated birthday wish.
- Use an inside joke to make it more personal.
- Use a funny picture to post happy birthday. It's more like giving the person a card.
